I need a seed for shade.

    I want to grow grass in a backyard that is very shady in Athens Ga. It has no grass at the moment, just weeds ivy and leaves. Please help.

    I am from the north so don't know what may work in dense shade down there. General principles apply in that - if you supply what seedlings require and they germinate - You have a start. Let them grow long and keep them long for your best shot of future success of the plant. ...More leaf surface per plant , more photosynthesis per plant...

    Don't over water and don't over stimulate the growth of leaf with high N. There is probably enough N in a bag of composted manure to keep the shaded grass alive and happy.

    Ask your supplier what seed works best in shade and plant 2 or 3 of the top choices.

    you should check with your local ag. extention office to see what they recommend. And turf species reports can be attained at www.ntep.org.
