I want to buy a smaller dump truck. I have a L-8000 and a internal dump right now. They are both 7yrds. I want to get somthing smaller. I am not sure what kind is good. Ford, Dodge, Chevy? I was looking for a 350 or 450 size dump truck.

All three have strenghts and weakness
I think though if you want the todal package all in all get the chevy duramax diesal it can haul *** and gets fairly good mileage.

If you are doing any towing I would go with a Ford 450/550 4x4. You did not mention if you plow. Being from Wisc. if you do these make excellent plow trucks. If you want to go down to a one ton dump, go with the Ford F350 4x4.

I have a '92 C-3500 two wheel drive, 454/auto. I pull a tandem axle trailer and haul about 4000 pounds on it. The truck has a 9' platform dump, receiver and gooseneck hitches. In our application, it works great. Milage is about 10-12 mpg. It has 165,000 on it, and still going strong. Paid $6500 for it a year ago.

Mitsubishi (Fuso?) Canter FE series. Could also look at 4wd models. Very well built.

Id skip the 1 ton dumps, they are not able to hold enough weight legally to be of much worth unless you only haul brush, and mulch.Around here we haul gravel, sand, and salt ,plows in the winter, and pallets of landscaping materials, these are all to heavy for 1 tons.Go with an import cab over,or an F550,skip the 450 ford, the 550 hold a ton more, for not much more money, good luck.

I'm with John on this one. It seems like the 350/3500 dumps just don't hold enough. I am in the market now and have been racking my brain trying to spend my money the best way. Every one ton dump I ever see is overloaded and waiting to blow the tires out. They just are to overloaded when you put a few yards of dirt in them. I think I have decided to just go to a 650 and be done with it. It is a little larger in scale and cost but I think it will be best for my situation.
It sounds like you have the bigger dumps already Matt, so maybe the 550 would fill your needs and be better than the 350. Good luck.

You said you already own several HD fords and Chevy's!!!
Why don't you just put a dump bed on one of those 550's, hmmm?
