Hey guys and gals. I am supposed to be moving into my shop this month if everything goes according to plan. Here is a little info on the place: its an area about 30' by 40' maybe a bit larger. Heated, electric, 1 garage door, 1 regular door, cement floor, located under a deli. Outdoor storage would provide for about 4 or 5 truck / trailer combos. This will be my only shop. What necesities will I need to make this place workable, and do you guys have any tips for how to arrange the area? The garage door is located in one corner of the 40' run, the other door is located about 15 feet to the right of that.

I should probably post what I am going to store in there: about 10 - 12 walk behinds / 10 walk behind blowers / 10 push mowers / some fertilizer / some hand tools (shovels, picks, etc) plenty of trimmers and back packs / Ladders / tarps / etc. I already have an air compressor. It's a small HD 20 gallon one? For outside they have 2 dumpsters for the deli which get filled up rather quickly. Also I have 1 trailer now that sits there, I will be adding another one on top of that this winter. There will also be like 4 trucks that sit there during the night and what not.

Why don't you take a picture of the place with all the stuff and show us so we can get a feel for what can be done.

Alan, as much as I would love to do that. Taking the picture of the shop would be the least hard thing to do. There is all kinds of junk in there :( I will see what I can do though in another week. As for the equipment, it's all over the place. Getting it all to one location will be very nice. That means that everything will be inside, easy to work on, and in one location instead of having to go all over the county looking for a mower that works :(. Then when you finally find the mower you gotta fight with all the other equipment to get it out of the shed. This will be really nice. The people who own the deli are doing work on the place now (major renovations) and once they are done, which should be very shortly as they have told me I can move in. Basically I just wanted to get a shopping list together and a rough floor plan.

What kind of HVAC system? Are there vent fans installed? What are your plans for used oil, etc? Parts washer, shop towels, block and tackle or other lift. Check with local authorities as to storing equipment with gasoline in it. Alarm system? Maybe window tint so you can't see in.

As far as vent fans go, I figure that I will leave the garage door open if I have to and maybe get a big cheapo fan. There are only windows on the garage door, and on the regular door, regular door they have been painted over, and the garage door is somewhat high up. The used oil I take to my town which desposes of it. Running water is something that this is lacking. I believe that there is a hose spigot out back, but that's about it. I do have a plumber who I do work for, so bartering is possible. There is also of course no bathroom acess from the shop once the deli closes :(. I hope that they will give me a key to get in, but I highly doubt it. As for visibility of the garage, it is in the back of the building. The doors can both be locked. The only people who know that something is down there are people who work for the deli, and a few other people. It is very non-visable from the road. The place is not even 2 miles from my home. (2 traffic lights)
