Okay, question for the Indiana fellows. I have heard a couple different things about when you are required to get a DOT number on the side of the truck. I have called the INDOT but all I got was the name of the form I need to fill out. I believe that you have to have a DOT number on the truck anytime you are pulling a trailer in a for-profit venture. Is this correct? If so the lady at the license branch told me that to get a DOT number I would need to register the truck as a commercial vehicle in my business' name. However, I still owe several thousand dollars on my truck in a loan with my name on it so they said it has to be registered in whoever's name is on the loan. Since I am set up as a sole proprietorship I thought it was good because legally me and the business are one in the same. Just curious to see if any of you have any insight before I go around in circles with the bank, DOT, Dept of Revenue, exc. Thanks!

If you will contact Purdue University, Office of Indiana State Chemist, they have a booklet prepared for Indiana chemical applicators that spells out everything, and I mean everything, you need to know about D.O.T. requirements in Indiana. I don't have the number handy but you can find them I'm sure.

I just posted on here that in Indiana you no longer need DOT numbers. This just started Tuesday. Unless you are combined weight (truck&trailer) over 26,000lbs. Which most likely you are not. Call the Dot office in decatur south of Indy and they will tell you the same thing. I just got my numbers on Monday put them on my truck and then found out on Wednesday that I don't need them. Also check out my other posing for more info it's under starting my own business forum
