hey truck gods (gravel rat) got a quick question for you guys.

i need a capable truck for the company, something more then my gas engine kodiak thats USELESS. im looking at a int. 4400 with a allison auto and a dt466 it also has a air lift axle so it would be able to haul alot more then just a single axle. its a bare cab and chassis now so i would put a hook lift on it. what do you think about that truck and engine? is the 466 a good engine? powerful? can the power be turned up on it?

then im thinking about a 4400 single axle tractor and using it to pull a tandem axle drop deck trailer, that would let me haul a skid and a mini ex and other stuff all at the same time. then have a tandem dump and a roll off to go with it.

    how about that idea?

If you are looking at a single axle then it should be a 33,000-35,000lb truck so it can carry some weight. As the 466 yes its a good engine as for horespower I think they are 250. Not sure if I would go with a automatic.

DT466 is a good reliable engine, check the hp rating of it in the truck your looking at as it can be anywhere from 190 up to about 270 I think. I have an IHC 4900 with a dt466 rated for 230hp and it hauls everything I need it too. Loaded up to it's 33k gvw it's a little slow accelerating but it get's the job done every day.

Not sure of the year, but I would check the GCWR of the allison transmission. Column shift models are generally 29k or 33k GCWR and push buttons are all you can tow (upwards of 6ok GCWR). More than the truck would ever want.
