I bought a 3616 International backhoe, motor is bad. the rest of the machine is tight. found a used motor for $1000. I have $5000 into it already should I keep putting money into this or get out.

You had better bail out quick. You probably have more in it now than it is worth. I used to be the equipment manager for a large mining firm and kept an eye on sales summaries from auctions across the country. Those old International hoes are not worth anything. Parts are real hard to get also. Except for a few of the rubber tire loader models, and a few of the dozers, all the IHC construction equipment has no value to anyone except parts dealers.
Now if you plan on using that machine forever, and can wait months for parts, then fix it up. You MAY get your money out of it over the years. :(
