its about 4 ft tall its planted in rocks root ball have no idea trunk thickness about 6inches in diameter ive transplantes small trees about two feet tall...

Yes, but it sounds like a big job. How is it buried into the rocks? Size of the rocks?

the root ball is going to need to be about 3ft across probably weigh 200 lbs or more youll need a nursery spade to ball it

id probably do it in the spring will need to be watered consistently after transplant it still might have its cageor clay ball which will make it harder and heavier

Id pull all the rocks first and be careful the branches are brittle and break easily definately a two person job

Japanese maples move really well they're not the delicate flowers people think they are. He put about 10 inches of dirt for every caliper inch of tree and you'll have no problem. Just be careful when digging it if you don't have a spade to not bust up the root ball.

I helped a guy do this last year it was alittle bit bigger than your by like a inch we put it on a sheet of plyboard and took a chainsaw cut a hole for the straps and hooked it up to his truck and then man handled it on the plyboard then pulled it to the location man handled it to where we wanted it

Timing is the most important thing. Before any buds open...early the better. Catch it while dormant.
Use of Wilt-proof or similar product to help slow moisture loss.
If you can wait a year....root prune to help develop structure.

They're expensive because they are slow growing, olny as valuable as the owner deems them to be. I've cut several down that were replaced by cheaper material.

as knox said they grow slow especially the weeping varieties and some cultivars are less common =higher priceThumbs Up

Bloodgood are common and not too valuable IMO.

A nice cut leaf I have seen sold for $ 4000 and have seen better.
