Just looking around on the John Deere site since the deck get so much praise. The 797 base model has the following suggested price:
    797 Commercial L.C.-D.F.I. Max-Frame Z-TRAK with 72 In. 7-Iron II Deck $13,579.00

Put a suspension seat and add tax and that's a lot of money(Probably over 15k) I know Hustler, Exmark and several other brands can be bought for much less than suggested retail but I figure John Deere has pricing set fairly firm. Needless to say I wouldn't even consider that amount. I paid $8000 for the Hustler super Z with a 27hp/60" air cooled Kohler and in the mid 8's for the 27/60 Exmark Lazer. What are some actual prices you guys are paying for the 777 or 797. Are the Hydraulics, pumps, motors up to the standards of Scag, Exmark, etc, etc,. I think you even have to get a suspension kit with the JD since they don't offer a full suspensions seat. What are your thoughts. Sounds like you could get and Exmark or Scag for less even with the liquid cooled engine. Or am I way off here. Just asking since I've had no dealing with JD. I'm not in the market this year but maybe next. Basic question I guess is are JD's just more expensive to buy compared to other brands?

Yes, that helps. Some company's have a rigid pricing structure and some give the dealers more wiggle room. I usually do not deal with the more rigid company's with some exceptions.

I echo robbo's findings with my 717A ... exactly right.

I just bought a new 2006 797 w/ 72" deck for $9900.00. I know the average sale price for Deere equipment is about 80% of suggested retail.

John Deere equipment seems to hold its value better than most. Glad you got a good deal.

How do the pumps, wheel motors, etc differ from other company's? Do they run 2 pumps and two motors? Are they as heavy duty as other to ZTR's? John Deere makes it difficult to find out any info on the web site. They need a DVD or an easy to order literature selection.
