Looking for some info on which one of these two mowers would you purchase. I cut just 2-3 yards a week plus my own personal property of 6 acres. I’ve heard great things about the 7 iron decks and the V+ decks of the scag.

The 960m has a 31hp Kawasaki the cheetah I would more than likely opt for the 37hp efi vanguard. I have John Deere dealers 20 minutes from my house in either direction and they have always given solid service to me. The scag dealer is around the same but it’s only 1 dealer the next closest is an hour away.

A few other mowers that are priced well I have considered.

Cub cadet pro z 960 35hp Kawasaki

Toro Z master 4000 31hp Kawasaki

Solid service from your dealer is worth it's weight in gold. I currently run V+ decks, but have also run the 7 iron pro decks. IMO, they are the two best decks and run neck and neck. So with those two things being equal, I would go with the solid dealer service that is only 20 minutes away.

Can you demo both in the Spring when conditions are generally the most difficult?

What is the ground like where you're cutting? Back in my earlier days, I bid out a property that I was sure I could get done in just a few minutes. Then I got on it and had to go super slow due to bumpy conditions - never happened again lol. Not sure if that plays a part in your decision or not, but thought I'd mention it. Will the JD with a suspension seat ride as nice, or nicer, than the Cheetah with it's suspension platform? I have no idea. Honestly, I'm not sure if my suspension platform on my Cheetah even does anything lololol!!

I'm a small fish in a big pond here but here in the northland, I've run both decks. I'll say NOTHING negative about the Scag V+ ran for 13 years but my 7-iron cuts noticeably better (in Minnesota) and stays cleaner. That said, your turf situation is a whole different animal. I have relatives in FLA and when I visit...it's like a different planet to me! Either unit is top notch but IME, my Deere wins in cut quality and deck buildup.
