I have been having problems with weeds in my yard and can't seem to rid myself of them, I am fairly new to the chemical game. I used 2-4d that came in the scotts turfbuilder. It was a dry application (granuales) and I did the whole prewatering bit before hand so it would adhere. Weeks later and the weeds seem to have loved the nitrogen as they are growing healthier than ever, didn't do much for the grass though. 39% nitrogen in the fertilizer, but I think a bit of dethatching is in order before the next nitro application. What selective herbicide can I use to kill these things, and once their dead and the 50% of cover they provided goes with them, what should I use to reseed to get a good thick lawn.

Here's the a closeup of the grass, I think its part perennial ryegrass and part fine fescue but could easily be mistaken.

At the campus I go to they seem to use little pellets about the size of a popcorn kernel that puff up a little when watered and it seems to do quite well. I was wondering if anyone knew what it was and if it was any good?

Thanks to anyone who can give me some help with this.

you will always have weed problems until you get some grass! round up and start over with quality seed and a good fert program. or as already stated, a liquid herbicide with 2,4-d. preferably a 3-way product.
