I have a old but basically sound Cub Cadet 1860 hydrostatic drive with a Kohler 18 Magnum flathead opposed twin that I can't keep the governor shaft from falling out. I'm starting my second rebuild for this problem. Just overhauled it 2 months ago for this problem and installed a full rebuild kit in it. The shaft blew out of the case and the governor gear dropped into the engine's guts and you can guess what happened next. The manual shows a snap ring thats supposed to hold the shaft in place but no groove exists to lock the ring into. The shaft seems very tight when diven into the case but loosens and shoots out of the case after the engine heats up. I've seen one example of cross drilling the case and shaft and pinning it in place with a roll pin. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :hammerhead:
