Im not into athletic fields, but I do maintain a golf course,I can tell you this,I cant treat it like a big lawn, foot traffic, wear and teat, and compaction force me to grow the grass a little more,(higher N) than other areas,I would think sports fields that have any kind of traffic would be the same.If its getting torn up faster than you can grow it,you've got problems.I built a homemade 42 ft boom sprayer that I use for treating my open areas,I just treated my lawn recently with tri-mec.I di 7 acres in 20mins.It took much longer to triple rinse, and clean up/wash up than to actualy spray.I got all the dandelion, and about 75% of the clover.I would think you will have to dethatch at least once, and aerate at least twice thru the season.
