We would like to introduce a great new opportunity for the LawnSite Community - A Monthly Give Away. Each month one of the sponsors or participating companies at the site will provide something of their choice for the community.

In order to be eligible for the contest, you must respond to a specific thread started by the administrators at the site. By responding to the thread, a ticket with your name will go into "a hat". There will be only one response per member and there will be one winner each month. We also ask that no other comments be made about another member's response. ONE POST PER MEMBER.

WE CHAPPS, a long time sponsor of the site, will be donating this month's LawnSite Give Away. WE CHAPPS designs and manufactures quality commercial landscaper and equipment accessories. They offer the Green Industry various products to answer many of the problems professionals in this industry face. Remember, in order to have a chance to win, you must respond to the Give Away Thread started by the administration. Also, you can only enter once, no exceptions. If you have any questions, please email

The following is the question you must answer in order to be elligible to win:

If you were given $50,000 cash that you did not have to pay back and you had one week to spend this money on your business only, how would you spend the money?

Please remember, one post per member, and do not comment on how others answer this question!

Posted by Sponsor W.E. Chapps one week after the start of the contest:

One week has gone by since the beginning of the 1st Lawn Site Give Away and the participation has been tremendous to date. W.E. want to Thank all of you that have taken part in the Give Away and to encourage all who haven't to enter and show the Manufacturers in the Green Industry what a powerful force and the unique unity that the LS community has.

If I was given 50k with this week to spend it on my business, without a doubt, I would spend it on land. Enough land for a facility large enough to handle the size business I want to eventually run.

Real estate is always a solid investment. With the interest rates where they are now, it just makes sense to take most of the 50k and use it as a down payment.

Most of us landscapers are in the same boat when it comes to our limited size workshops or garages. To a great extent we are limited to how much our business can expand by the size of our facility. Not many of us has 50k to put down on a morgage for a new facility with enough left over to cover the monthly payments. Especially with land prices increasing 10-15% in my area.

Some might say rent a large facility, and put the money toward trucks and equipment. However, to rent a facility large enough to handle the size business I want to have would not be economically sound. To have to pay 10k - 15k per year in rent and have nothing to show for in 15-30 years, no thanks, I'll stay smaller until I can afford that 50k down payment.

Ah yes, if you gave me one week to find the land to put my landscaping facility on, I would visit every realtor in town.

Who knows, maybe I'll hit the lottery?

50k to spend, Easy, buy more land. Then i can dump my clippings, mulch, and turn our "moon dust" dirt, into useful soil by working my "mulch" into this acid based soil.

    Above all

Mulch and clippings will only make acid soil more acid.

50K Last time I said a new Isuzu spray truck. This Time I will say a new E-100 van with all the irrigation parts stocked in custom bins. A lap top computer with portable printer. I would use this for repair service only no contractor new installs. This is the one area of my business that could be greatly improved upon. Yes I have an irrigation License.

I'd have to say I'd buy a new 2003 F-350 Turbo Diesel Extended Cab, Short Box, Ford. I'd also put a V plow on the front. That way I could use the truck both for pullin' my mowing trailer and also add another truck to my fleet for plowing snow. Now I know all that would probably cost more than 50k.....but that'd be a real nice down payment.
