I have narrowed my ztr search down to two machines. The Lazer ZHP with 19HP Kaw. 46" deck, 06 model for 6000.00 or the Scag Tiger Cub 48" 19HP Kaw, 48" deck, 07 model for around 6799.00. I like both machines but 800.00 is quite a bit of money for me. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Make sure you demo them both in extreme conditions before buying. I've learned what works for someone else in their area does not always work for me. I have bought 1st and had regrets in the past. So do your homework and demo if at all possible in the spring.

I second that. ^^^^ I did a demo on the Scag and really liked it until I mowed wetter thick grass. It did not bag very well. (I need to be able to bag)
other than that minor detail I really liked it. Can't speak for the exmark. I think we will demo one of those in spring because it sounds like there are a bunch of changes on the way for them. (positive changes that are spoken about in a few other threads from yesterday and today.) Demo a lot though,
you don't want to have regrets.

I looked at both of these and did some research. I never did demo them but I bought the Scag because the spindles were greeseable and the deck was thicker. The Scag spindles have a 3 year warrenty and the 2 years on everything else. Also the dealer was very good. Good luck with whatever you buy!:usflag:

    Demo them both.

I think you'll buy the Scag.

If they have models with more hp/torque, I'd upgrade. Especially if you plan to mulch. If I recall correcly, there is a big torque jump from the kawi 19 to 21/23 hp engines.

Both mowers are pretty heavy for the cut size.

tried both of them before purchasing our lazer hp a few years back, I really thought they were both great machines...you really want the bigger engine, ours has the 21 hp kawasaki and sometimes still feels underpowered...I have been very impressed with the lazer hp, 1400 hours and no major problems at all....good luck with your decision

I bought the Scag with the 52"deck and 24hp honda 3 years ago. Have been well pleased. You need the extra hp if your going to mulch. Takes more to mulch than it does to bag. I now have 3 Scags. The cub, a 61" turf tiger, and a 72" Sabretooth, and I like them all. Which one I like the best depends on how large a property I'm mowing. I carry all three of them in a 20ft enclosed trailer.
