I'm using nutra-flo 's PureGrade Liquid Fertilizer. It is 16-2-2. My sprayer is calbrated for 2.5 gal of solution per 1000 sq ft.

How many lbs of nitrogen per 1000 sq ft? Should I do 1 lbs when temps are under 80 degs and knock it down to .5 lbs when temps are over 80 degs? Perhaps do .75 lbs per m all season?

BS,

Since you are in NW IA, your turf would likely be similar to what we have here in SE MN.
I apply around 3/4 lb N (per 1K sq ft) in May with pre-em, then about 1lb early June (now) a large % of which is slow release N, then nothing over July and August (dry, do not want to add stress to turf), then about 1lb early Sept, and finally about 1lb mid-Oct or so as a winterizer.

So, even apps of N is what I would recommend. You can vary the amount of slow release (SCU or other) in your product that you use - however if you use liquid that variable is out of the equation.

so only four apps per year. my liquid nitrogen is not slow release. i can get some 20-3-5 fert that is 72% slow release. but is over 5 bucks a gal vs the other that is 1.5 bucks per gal. the salesman told me that most companies use the cheaper of the two.

Yep only 4 apps per year (plus I do one additional straight weed control app). But my fert is dry broadcast. I think I will defer to the guys that use straight liquid - they could help you out more with the product you might use.

If you are going to use a liquid fert that is reasonable is price find someone that sells UFLEXX or UMAXX. Non slow release ferts only last 4 weeks, maybe 5 and do not provide even growth and green color.

Most extension services rec. 4lbs of N/year max. on KBG lawns. Liquid or granular, slow release or not.

We also use Nutra-Flo liquid fertilizer every year for our "early fall weed & feed" app. No tip burn, and it holds color for many weeks. Good quality stuff.

Made in Iowa too. We swear by it cuz it has never caused us problems compared to other liquid fertilizers.

anybody use uflexx fertilizer and put it your tank and spray it? if so, does it work well?

I apply UMAXX in both liquid and granular form. In certain conditions I will get a little tip burn but out of 30 lawns I used it on only 2 received it. UMAXX will last 12 to 16 weeks while UFLEXX will last about 8 weeks. I very much like the product and will probably use a lot of it next year. I am sitting on 20 pallets of polycoated fertilizer that I need to use up this year.

hey, I'm in kenosha. sounds like your nitrogen vs water volume was right on the border. what water volume per M where you spraying? how much N per M?
and we're talkin MAXX not FLEXX, right?

Im pretty much in the same situation as you, getting a feel for concentration limitations on those two while praying we run out of granular so the switch can be made next spring.

I am applying about 3/4 lb nitrogen per K with between 2.5 to 3 gallons of water. When it gets warmer I will raise the amount of water.

We apply .5 to 1lb /m. For liquid we use urea mixed w/ uflexx & umaxx. Been working good.

We apply 2 gls/m out of an Isuzu. Mixing Urea with Umaxx will give you green up and longevity.
