Well many of you may have known this already but for those of you that dont you can learn through me on this one.

I was using my 18" auger bit tonight augering holes down at least 24" for the 6x6 footers for the deck. I had to go very deep like 4 to 5' but when I would leave the bit spinning and pull it up alot of the dirt would just fall back into the hole. Finally when I started going down to about 4' I stopped the bit and just pulled it up once and the bit was full of dirt. Just do that as many times as needed to get the loose dirt out and then there is very minimal dirt to dig out with a shovel.

Just thought that I would pass this on if someone out there did not know this already.

I am having to rent the 18" bit extention tomorrow so we can get the holes down to around 6'6" or 7' if possible to get to some solid ground. You gotta love working around newer construction homes and a crap load of loose backfill.
