Anyone use any of the RGB LED systems with a color controller? Have a commercial client that wants to be able to modify the color on an as needed basis.
I've used Nexxus before, but these fixtures need to be able to withstand urban campers and intoxicated locals. We need to be able to do a surface/ground mount in planting bed around trees that line the street.

I have only used them in water features over the past few years. I have not had to replace one yet, but then these are water cooled fixtures. since most of these seem to be based on the older luxeon 1 and 3 watt LED's, I am not so sure how long these will last on enclosed fixtures as far as heat.

Are we talking projection, linear, cove, wall wash... There is a plethora of RGB LED product on the market... some of it good and some of it not so good. Expect to pay big $$$ for the good stuff.

Some more info and I may be able to help point you in the right direction.

Regards

You want to project colour into the Oak trees?

I only know of a few LED RGB MR16 lamps and they are nowhere near as bright as a 20W Halogen MR16 lamp.

Personally, I would direct the clients away from projecting colours into the trees, espescially along any streetscape or public areas.

If you are just sold on LED's then they are out there. back in February- I was at Disney world, and they had seveal par sized arrays, each having aprox 14 or so cree 3 watt red green and blue led's that created some pretty awesome effects. they were on the palms beside spaceship earth. they had larger led arrays on cinderella's castle in the magic kingdom, probably closer to 40 of those same led's in a larger array the size of a 6x8 halogen fixture. all LED's wee mounted on very large aluminum plates, and all led's screwed into said plate to be replaceable.

The imagineer lighting guy I talked to was named trevor, and said that those lights were purchased from a theater lighting company and had been working outside for about 18months. they have has to replace a few led's here and there, but at least just the led, not the whole shebang. I looked online but only found par36's with about 7 high power led's, they looked similar, but had red green and blue led's that faded on and off to create different colors.
