By the time you get that rig all set up. you have probably spent $1200. you could buy a used lesco hps machine for $1500.
I realize this is an old thread but you seem to be the HPS "King" here. I'm looking at a used unit. I'm tired of walking large properties. What should I be looking at for wear and tear. It has a new Kawasaki on it. The owner has a new Turfco and doesn't need this. Any help appreciated.

Is this available anymore, anywher?? Best I can track it to is ZSpray and Lt Rich. From there the ground goes cold. And, how much did/does it cost and will it fit Spykers?

Curious. Why have a motorized spreader if you can ride on it?
Costs. If you spray 40 yards everyday, then a 15-20k machine can be justified. If you spray less, you can't justify the cost. No different than 12k mower versus a 2k big box store mower.

First make sure the frame is solid, no cracks or weld repairs. If the machine has a new engine you should be all set there. If its an older machine you should probably change the 3/4 " bearings on the front axle stanctions, the newer machines have tapered bearings like automobiles and they are not changeable, they will however outlast the machine if they get properly lubed. check the wheel bearings, change them if they are worn, the tranny is a hydro gear, it should be fine if it was never overheated, check the cables and belt for excessive wear. The wear on the tires should be an indicator of how many hours are on the machine. I replace my impeller, impeller tranny, belt, idler and air filter every winter and start out in march with a tight machine! My current hps is a 2014 with the subuaru, I think I can coax a 5th season out of the engine and will probably replace the engine next winter.

I just realized there was a typo in my post. I typed "can" when it should've been "can't." So my question should've been, why get a motorized spreader if you "can't" ride on it? From the looks of the photo, it doesn't look like you can ride on the spreader. Perhaps I am not seeing things correctly.

If you have small properties and gates less than 36", a ride on (most) won't fit. These motorized sprayers are very popular in Florida and New Jersey. It's cheaper and can be all some need. I'm exploring all options. I have larger properties and don't want to walk them anymore, and I'm not dragging a hose! :walking::walking::walking:

Oh, so these are walk behind sprayers!

Yes. There are so many (too many?) options/choices it can boggle the mind. I like the concept of the Lesco HPS style. I saw an old Cub Cadet with saddle bag style tanks that looked interesting, however there isn't much info and it's discontinued. But for small gated lawns, the wheel attachment can save your legs. A buddy of mine had a historic property with a 30" gate. Behind it was 2 acres of lawn!! It paid well, but you still had to do it!!

Lesco built a powered walk behind spreader in the eightys, I believe they called it the hydraulic power spreader, I rented one to test it out on a multi acre condo account. It did ok but it was very heavy, no fun to lift in/out of the truck! I guess if all you service is tiny little gated lawns it will work for you, but you are still going to be walking a lot of miles on big open lawns, and there is no spraying capability there!

I use a Spreader-Mate drop in sprayer in an old red Lesco (MTD-80). There's a guy in Florida making them now (hydraulic power spreader). He wants $3500 shipped to me. It's an option. I am looking to stop walking on larger properties. I like the idea of the more consistent speed so I get better results. There's nothing worse than hitting a hole while pushing a top heavy sprayer across a property. HPS or similar are my main choice.

If you are buying new look into the hps with the spiker hopper.
Trying to get a Spyker Sales rep to show me one. Sucks when you know more than the rep or salesman! I sent you a PM too. Thanks!
