How many hours have you guys observed a commercial Kawasaki to last? I know it's dependent on maintenance, abuse, climate, storage etc. Just trying to get a ballpark.

I have one with over 1300 hours, it has a lot of "end play" so I need to work on it but its still in daily service.

Any particular one? I've got an old FB460V with about 4k and a 19hp KAI with 3800. Both run perfect, don't smoke or leak a drop. I have several others with around 1500hrs with no probs. With proper care I would expect 2000hrs average.

1500-3000 is generally the range. Abused = shorter.

Four years ago, when I was still servicing commercial equipment, I had one commercial outfit with three Kaw equipped units. All three engines had in excess of 4000 hours and were still running great--they sold while they were still in running condition and bought new. They were very service conscious, changing oil/filter every two weeks(about 100 hours) as well as cleaning blower housings and cleaning/replacing air filters.

A second outfit, also with Kaw equipped units, experienced much shorter life spans, one as short as 80 hours(plugged blower housing/cooling fins).

I have my preference regarding engines I prefer to work on, but I'm convinced that most "engine life" threatening problems could be eliminated with regular and meticulous service, regardless of engine manufacturer. Shortcuts in service end up biting you in the butt--service is simply insurance in the protection of your investment.

2 fx 801 from 2009 have some where between 2500 and 2700 hours, which really surprises me. I would have to look at my equipment log to give you hard numbers. They started this week and will run until late November and average 500 hours a year....Still have a few FC 420s that must be close to that as well. Can not say that for any of the FH 430s yet, I know that one is 6 years old and smokes really bad.....maybe it has 2000 hours on it, maybe......

Since you have the experience....... I have read the manual I know what it says but I want to get your opinion. I have a 23 hp Kawasaki. How often do you think the oil should be changed, and would you use full synthetic? Is there any other maintenance besides cleaning the air filter that I should keep
In mind. Thanks for any advice.

Ill weigh in on what I've seen over the years. Keeping cooling fins and blower housing clean is often overlooked. Cleaning any oily grass buildup off helps the cooling. 100 hours on oil changes. Personally I've always preferred synthetics for their better resistance to thermal breakdown. A few bucks more per change is worth adding longevity and a higher margin of protection if you ever do run hot.

Right on. Patriot. As I previously stated, 100 hour oil changes and a clean blower housing/cooling fins. I can't weigh in on any advise on the synthetics as I have no long term experience. Yes, synthetics may be of value but a quality straight 30W has worked for me and the customers I have serviced in the past--I just couldn't justify the price difference if oil changes occurred on the 100hr(or less) schedule.

Have a 23 hp Kawi on a 2004 Turf Tracer. I am the original owner and only operator. Used the mower today. The engine has 5637 hours on the clock.
