Lift questions for trailer

    Hi all,
    This is for a travel trailer we own. It sits very low to the ground, so that every other time we go camping, I end up banging up something on the bottom. The axles run over the leaf springs, so I had thought I could just undo the U bolts and run the axles under the leaf springs to get another couple inches. I have seen other trailers like that, but in taking it all apart, I found that the spacers are welded to the axles, and the bolt attached to the spacer is the only thing that holds 2 of the leaf springs in place. I will post some pics below. So, any good ideas about lifting this trailer? If I put the axles on the bottom, I would have to cut off the spacer, or invert the axles.

    Just add some new shackles to the ends of the springs, problem solved. This might be something you have to fab up with some steel plate, unless you can find a lift kit for a Suzuki Samari which might have shackles near the size of the springs on your camper.

    You can buy the weld on mounts that allow you to flip your axles, kind of like the reverse of a flip kit for lowering the rear of a truck. Bell tech makes a flip kit and I have done just what you are wanting to do. I did it on a pop-up camper for a friend a few years ago, it took like maybe 2 hours after I ordered the bracket to weld to the axle. You have to be careful and weld very slowly or you will warp the axle housing. The only problem you will encounter is you are raising your center of gravity on the trailer. I had to add some make shift sway bars to help with ride control.

    put some casters on the butt end where your scraping and leave the axle alone?

    depending on the lift amount you want there is several options,
    flip the axels like you started,
    longer shackles
    new springs with more arch
    or the casters on the rear.

    If you put the spring over the axle that is gonna be some Extreme Lift....Like 5+"". I would be afraid of how it would pull after you change the center of gravity. The Idea about the rollers would be your best bet....i think....:D

    Replace the drop axles with straight ones.

    What he said. ^^^^ If they were already straight axles I'd say continue with the axle flip idea, but you are gonna be WAY high with what you have. Should be able to buy two whole new axle assemblys pretty reasonable. if you want to do something cheaper I'd say throw the casters under the back - or only go camping at places that don't cause a problem...:)

    If those are standard axles you should only have to buy a bare axle and then take the hub and brake assembly from your drop axles. Shoul cost less than $300 and be the most practical way.
