Does anyone know about how much it costs to become an LLC in Texas? Is the services of a lawyer needed or can I do it on my own?

You can file one yourself here - https://direct.sos.state.tx.us/acct/acct-login.asp. The filing fee is @ $225. An attorney isn't *needed* but I would recommend using one to at least write your Articles of Organization and would highly recommend talking to an accountant about how you're going to setup your tax structure. By default, an LLC is treated as a partnership but in many cases, make the election to be treated as an S-Corp for taxes will prove to be beneficial.

Some tax advantages w/ s-corp over llc and in my state S-corp set up is less.
Have an attorney prepare for you.
