Did anyone notice that Locke mower has been bought out? I also noticed that they don't make the Triplexes anymore. They only make a one reel mower now.

Theres still quite a few outfits in my area with at least on Locke Triplex one the back of the truck. If fact one company only uses Lockes here in Newport. Some people refuse to change.

There branching off into pull behind mowers. Both rotary and reel type. I hope it all works out for them. Id hate to see them go out of business. There like the Harley of mowers.

There a really old reel mower company. They made nothing but heavy duty commercial reel type mowers. Back before there were a lot of rotary mowers there was just reel types. Up here in Newport, all the commercial reel types were Locke mowers.

The brand name of the mower is Locke. Locke mower web site

Gravely/Ariens bought both Locke, and National Mower, some time back. I would imagine they are combining/rationalizing the lines so they do not have a lot of similar, overlaping products.

Locke Mowers were the best cutters. They were the mowers used at the Whitehouse in DC. My Locke cuts better then my Bobcats but lawn has to be shorter and flat. Also chains break often so you need to know how to fix often. But you can't beat those reels!!

Here are some of the wb tri-plex mowers. This page is from 2004. They don't make any walk behind tri-plex anymore?

Locke mowers were once a big name in the industry. Reel mowers must be sharpened by a lap grinder. The cost of this grinding was high because it was labor intensive. Over the years rotary blade mowers became more popular because a rotary blade is much cheaper to sharpen. Golf courses still use some reel mowers. I think that the White House is still cut with reel mowers. Reel mowers gave a great cut because of the scissor like action of both blades meeting. Kind of cool to think back.

Locke was bought out by Gravely. I recently bought a cl130 Gravely reel mower. It cuts realy well. Only problem with it is that it does not really stripe that great.

bermuda is the only type of grass that i have cut with it. the height is usually around 1.5 inches. i can't figure out if higher or lower bermuda will stripe better. i know with my tru cut that the grass would stripe better at a lower height.

Lower stripes better (as best as you can expect with bermuda) and you have to keep going the same direction every cut. Maybe chaser will post his stripe pics using a TruCut I sold him some time ago.
