I've got a fair sized yard, corner lot, and lots of grass. I faithfully follow the scotts fertilizer program, etc. I mow roughly once a week, on the highest setting of my lawn tractor. Unfortunately I have crabgrass here and there, at least two types of grass (one grows well in a 20x20 section of the yard when it's shaded, thick growth almost like carpet, then dies when it gets hot, the rest is less thick but hardier) and recently got an infestation of small white flowers all over, to which I applied some broadleaf weed killer. I would assume (dangerous I know) the standard homeowner routine. I'm not real happy with the lawn, and rather than go straight to one of the big chains I'd prefer to have an independent come out, look at the lawn, and give me an estimate for whatever it would need chemical wise; I'd still prefer to mow myself.
