I have a 99 JD JE75 walk behind mower with 5 speeds and electric start and last week I was mowing and came across a patch of semi tall (6 inches) grass. When I tried to go over it the blades slowed to such a low speed that they wouldn't cut. When i start the mower and engage the blades they spin full blast but now when i try to mow average height grass it does the same thing. I've cleaned it greased it and checked all the mechanics and everything seems fine. JD says they charge 100 bucks just to look at it, so if anyone has any suggestions i would appreciate the advice. THANKS

First place to check is the fuel shut off valve, the O-ring deforms with age and blocks the fuel supply. Next is the filter built into the tank and last is trash in the float bowl or carburetor.
