I have an old Gravely 36" belt drive walkbehind...If I take the old ones (two on each side) to a shop and have them measured will it be pretty acurate or will they have stretched over time? and how much less should I take out of the measurement for the new ones? (I can't afford the original belts...).

If the drive belts are what you are referring to, then they will have stretched a little. However, not sure on this model what the belt routing is like but you may try removing the springs/whatever puts tension on the drive belt and get a piece of string or rope, route it around the pulleys, mark where you end up back around on the string, take string off and measure it. Hope this makes sense.

take the belt to your local place.

they can measure the belt.. it will measure the width (thickness and the length) even if its broken.

I had to do it today.
