We installed the sprinkler system too. I set all zones for 20 minutes twice a day for a week then back to normal once a day.

In my eyes its the big guys that should be getting it. Just as many big guys have junk flopping on trailers. Although I do have my DOTs and inspections ect.

I don't necessarily agree with the excessive fine structure that they have instituted, especially for secondary (non-safety) issues. It appears to be a money grab for local departments. I also realize that an officer having a bad day can result in piling on questionable tickets. However, some people have to be told to fix what is broken, instead of doing it on there own. Therefore, the fines should be a deterrent. An expensive lesson.
It's not like we haven't been warned. The rules are not secret. They have told us for some time now to bring our equipment into compliance and follow accepted safety regulations. Yet there are guys out there that ignore the rules and are the first to cry "foul" and plead ignorance when they are ticketed.
You ended up replacing 2 tires that were bad and installed a breakaway brake cable that was not hooked up because it was broken. These are major equipment safety issues, that you must have been aware of, yet did not correct. You chose to operate with defective equipment. I can't muster any sympathy for you, sorry. You made a choice and took a chance, and you got caught. Live and learn.
You spent $600 in fines plus your down time and probably a day in court. The repairs only cost $250. Seems to me that the prudent thing to do would be to address the maintenance issues before they become a problem. You would have saved a pile of dough and a considerable amount of time.
Your defective equipment operates on the same roadways my family and I travel on. If you want to put your safety at risk, that is your business. When you put that risk on a public road, you put everyone around you at risk also. That is not acceptable. Be thankful that you were caught before you were the cause of a tragic accident.
I'm not trying to single anyone out by directing this to your post. Yours is just the latest of many similar posts on the subject.
If you are avoiding the area because you have a problem with this guy, then ok. If you are avoiding the area because your equipment won't pass inspection then learn from Green Acres lesson and fix it.
Alright, I'm stepping down from the soapbox now.
Take advantage of the mutiple programs and start times on the new timers. Run 5-7 min. every 1hr the first week. Every 3 hrs. the second week and 10-15 min. the third week. show the customer how to change the timer so you do not have to go back. 15-20 days after the sod is layed it will be well rooted and dry enough to run a zero turn across it.
Got hit again today. This time they stole the auger attachment. They left the strap holding it to the trailer and the police got a good set of prints.
