I installed some straw erosion control blankets as part of larger project for a customer last Fall. Upon snow melting this Spring it appears a white fungus type growth is on some of blankets specifically where snow was piled. Has anyone seen this before and how was it addressed. It is not very noticeable but this is one of those customers that notices everything. My guess is it's a mycelium forming on the straw as I know it's used on certain types of mushroom cultivation. He had one of his 'builders' remodeling his house tell him it was bad news (on what basis I don't know). I told him the straw blankets are widely used in the industry and we did nothing out of the normal. He's ready to put down fungicides or whatever it takes I just don't know which direction to steer him!
