it is a 21horse Kawasaki on my scag 52 hydro. It starts, runs for 10 seconds and then dies. If I give gas, it dies immediately. I can get it running eventually, but then I have to leave it on.

    -battery is OK
-fuel pump is pumping, filter is clean
-checked all my safety connections and other wires, seems OK
    -carb is clean
-fuel hoses that I can reach are fine, spark plugs fine

Anybody have any clues based on what the engine is doing? like I said it starts up perfectly, then dies.

Did you check your solonoid fuel cut of on carb. Should click when your turn key. See if that may be it. Or lines may be clogged. Can be many things, just throwing things out for ya.

well i checked, what i think is an oil sensing component on the front of carb.
I unplugged it, it wouldn't start. plugged it back in started--then it died.

i really hate going to the dealer, but this is my main machine and it is driving me bonkers.

air filter clean? Are you sure gas is entering the carb?

I was just going to say the same thing, air filter. Take off the air filter and start it without the air filter on

When it starts to die pull the choke and see what happens.

Also spray all the fuel and air pasages with carb cleaner and then blow out with compressed air. Sounds like fuel starvation to me.
