Hey guys, I have a craftsman 24v cordless mower, model # 917.386410 that will not shut off. Battery connections are clean, replaced daughter board where charger plugs in, everything seems to be hooked up right. Had the on-off switch tested and it works fine, as soon as I plug the fuse in the mower starts and I cant shut it off without pulling the fuse. Any ideas?

You probably won't find many people to help you with this mower on here...best of luck.

May I suggest installing a switch to turn it off?

How was the switch checked---in conjunction with the zone(control) bar or by itself? I'd pull the two wire lead from the switch to the control box and check for continuity with the control bar in both the on and off position. It might be possible the control bar is not completely releasing the switch as it should. If the switch is working properly with the control bar in place and the motor continues to run in either position, the problem is likely in the control box and unfortunately, the control box is no longer available. Since you've replaced the board, the control box is about the only other problem area.

If all this fails to provide a solution, you may want to do as cga indicates--cut the wire a short distance from the fuse holder and wire in a toggle switch that can be mounted on the upper handle. This will require some extra wire to do so.

Otherwise, take it to a Sears service center.

Toggle switch sounds like a good fix, thanks for the info

I have worked on a few of these. The switch can not handle that much power so it is ran though a relay. The relay from time to time gets stuck. The relay is a big 24 volt continuous duty. Some type battery mower also have a braking circuit the shorts the motor leads when the relay drops out to help hte motor to stop quicker. I will check the IPL for you

The onwers manual is dated 7/22/97. It is no longer on the Sears Parts web site. I did find a manual for it. It seems this unit you have to replace the whole contol board it seems. If you want the manual PM me with an email address. I tried to up load it here but it failed twice. It is below the size limit of 3.91MB (it is 2.25MB) bit it just would not upload.

Auto Zone has a 24 volt continuous duty solenoid Part Number: SS944 for about $60..

It does have a relay, I'm wondering if there is something you can do to trip a reset to the system. Thanks for your input
