mowing after seeding

    the grass is obviously still growing so when you get done doing the aerate/seed procedure how long should you wait before mowing again.

    I won't mow strawed areas until the grass gets about 3 1/2
    inches tall.....if it's just aerated and overseeded I'll mow the yard whenever it comes up on on our job list...
  3. at least 2.5 inches as long as it is not wet.

    not how long the grass should be but how long do you let the seed sit on the ground before you put the mowers back on it. do you mean the new seed has to be 2.5 in.

    For overseeding, the next week is ok

    The point is to allow the seed to either start sprouting or at least cement itself in the soil so it won't get blasted out from mowing.

    I will mow the next week. I will mow around areas that are very thin and allow them to grow more before putting a 400lb mower over it. I always raise my deck height a little higher for the cut following the over seeding. Not sure if it helps any but it allows for the newly germinating seed to keep from being sucked and cut. the 2nd week I am back at what I usually mow at.
