I just finished mowing my yard(2acres) in like 30 min.!I was in 5th gear the whole time on my exmark with 14hp/48"I am a fairly big guy and the mower didnt hesitate at all.It started spinnig the wheels only when I attempted to climb a large hill that is even hard to walk.It rained here last night and the grass is still a little damp and fairly long.I dont know if its just me but it cut better in 5th gear cutting tall grass than it used to in 2nd or 3rd when I was walking it.didnt clump up much at all. I might add I built my riding attachment.I was going to buy one and got sticker shock.I am pretty good with steel and welding,so I decided to build my own.design is similar to Velke brand 2 wheeler, but I made it a little stronger in some areas because of my weight.Total cost was around$75.
I will try to get some pics soon, but I will try to explain it..platform frame is 2x2 angle reinforced at the corners, expanded steel mesh as the surface.5/8 grade 8 bolts are the axles welded to the platform.wheels I had laying around are 10x3.5 with high speed bearings.3/4" side to side pivot was welded to the front of the platform.I made the brackets which mount to the mower using 3x3 angle with a 5/8 pin, 1" pipe as the bar.3/4" grade 8 bolt is the right to left pivot point at the other end of the bar.I originally thought it might be a little heavy, but it turned out to be pretty light.one of my friends thought I had bought it,when he found I made it,he told me I should start making them and selling them.so far it works great, but long term is what matters.
Never heard of a velky improving cut quality before. Maybe when it dries out it will stand back up. The only time I can cut that fast and do a good job is a double cut. I know you're pumped about your velke but seriously, are you sure it cut BETTER at speed?
