Ok I am going to have to use a 2000 Ford Explorer xls to tow my classic car to a show in august. It is 2 wheel drive 4 door with a 4.3l v6. Any guesses as to the mpg????? The trailer weighs 5000 loaded.

explorers dont have 4.3 litre engines, thats a chevy engine odds are if you got a explorer its a 4.0 v-6 or a small v-8, ford does make a 4.2 liter v-6 but im not sure if they put it in explorers. explorers were not made to pull such heavy loads so you gas mileage is going to suck, as to what mpg you gonna get youll have to figure that out yourself by towing the trailer loaded when you make your trip. good luck!

Had an explorer back in the day, and only pulled with it a little. Was only a couple of 4 wheelers. Hope you are not going far, or have a big pocket book to buy gas and pay for the strain you will put on the SUV.
