Muffler for 12.5 38" MTD?

I have an older mower and the muffler has fallen off. It uses the big round type muffler and I bought a generic along with a 6 inch galvanized threaded pipe but the pipe vibrates out even with a lock nut. Are the threads to big do you think? My local shop wants $55.00 for a MTD replacement. Anyone know any cheaper sources?

Sounds like the threads are worn out in the engine and if thats the case a OEM muffler wont stay put either. Look at the block and see if you don't have two screw holes also, If so you may need to go with a bolt on type muffler.
