I just bought this used 2006 Jacobsen HR5111. Barely used with 350 hours, for half the price (29K). Your opinions please.
This was on ebay in florida. Apparently, the township bought six of them when they only needed 3, then they figured a contractor could do it for less, so they got rid of all of them. He had this one, another with 500 hrs he sold last week, and I think he still has one with 200 hrs. We cut alot, mainly with Ferris ZTRS, and Kubota front mounts, we have a few Walkers for areas where collection is a must... This is our first WAM. A buddy of mine has two and claims they're the cats ***. I'll see how much labour they'll save me after the first cut-but apparently its huge. We cut 80 schools, the two biggest postal sorting plants in the area, a few of the areas biggest shopping malls, a couple of marinas, a campground, some industrial properties and were bidding a part of the Airport-our largest mowing challenge thus far. We're tired of the winter work and have shifted gears to focus on Summers Only. :drinkup:Was this on ebay in Florida? IF not - but I have been looking as well for a WAm and I thought I seen this unit there. Do you run all jacobsens? I guess I have always stuck with toro wams cuz i know how to work on them now and all our units seem pretty similiar in design. That is alot of mowing your doing. 80 schools?? WOW
They're all still snow covered, but I'll definitely post some this spring/summer. I'm kinda guilty of never taking pics-just too damn busy.Summer only - that would be awesome! Way to go, I would like to see some pictures sometime of those properties. My biggest this is 33 acrea.
Then I'd have to hire another guy at approx 1000/week, after taxes, comp, and all that other b.s. X 32 weeks=approx another $32,000 per summer, not to mention diesel is at $1.25 per litre. If I get 5 good years from the unit, I'll be further ahead, and I can dump the thing for 10 K, plus in most cases, the gear will always be ready for work in the morning without any excuses, hangovers, stories etc. Investing in your guys is important, but I firmly believe in investing the right gear for the application.that thing costs 58K new? wow, seems it would be cheaper to just buy two regular mowers and drive em next to each other...

The entry fee kept me away from them for some time, this is one way we can become more efficeint at what we do while minimizing labour, and it allows us to better corner our niche wide area market-not many of these big guys in use here.My university had a big Jacobsen a couple years ago, but it caught on fire and burned up. They replaced it with a Toro WAM with a cab on it. They also have a JD WAM. I'd love to drive one of those things. That looks really nice, JohnnyRoyale.
It will cut 64",99" or 134" with both wings down, weighs 3700#, has a 49Hp Kubota diesel and will be pulled on a HD 5 ton deckover trailer. How wide is the cut on that? What HP is it? What does it weigh? Are you going to be putting it on a normal utility trailer or a HD trailer?
Moving something that big around from site to site could be an issue for me-this mower fits MY application just right and I really dont need another piece I can use for other things cuz I have all kinds of other gear another tractor could be used for. But I appreciate your opinion.in that case, why not buy a 15 or 20ft towbehind batwing, and go with a nice tractor with turf tires. still would cost less than 60 grand (way less) and would cut wider. I guess i just cant justify those mowers, but then again my bigest (40+/- acres) prop gets done with a hay mower so I cant really relate to lawn mowing tthat much area. I'd just think with a tractor when ur done mowing, you also have a tractor u can use for other things
I totally agree with you. I often wonder if were on the right side of the fence (cutting the grass vs selling to the grass cutters).yeah im sure its the best thing to use but i cant see how they cost that much, its just bit pricey to me, id think they could make and sell them for half that price
