    My thought was ninebark as well... could be gold dwarf...

    Yup Dart's Golden Ninebark, I prefer Diablo, but still very nice.

    By the looks of the old wood, and smooth leaf, I am gonna say not ninebark. I am gonna throw out a guess of gooseberry.
