need a new truck?

    Doh that got me curious I thought the truck was converted to Cummins because I'am trying to find ways of converting a gasser to a diesel because I can find gasser trucks cheap.

    I like the IDIs which is what I have now has decent power a bit slow when loaded but the truck does fine for the rural roads I drive on. The F-Superduty trucks are good they pack a good load 2wd can be a pain in the azz but I do fine and I'am in tougher places than most with my F-Superduty.

    Myself I'am looking for a LWB F-Superduty with diesel power so I can put a 12 or 11 foot dumping flatdeck on it. A 8 foot box is too small for me you can only haul gravel in it I need to haul gravel to building supplies.

    The F-Superduty trucks easily handle 5000lbs my 88 F-Superduty I had some loads were upto 8900lbs of gravel :cool2:

    There is a company out west that does PSD to Cummins conversions. The site is www.fordcummins.com . They swap in ISB's and 6bta's in F-250's and F-350's that have previously had gas engines or tired 6.9's/7.3's in them. Also they can swap in a ZF-5 or 6 or NV5600, or build a E40D to handle it.

    Just checked out the 'Ford-Cummins' website. Talk about a good idea, but I'm just wondering, If you buy an F-250, $11,000 gas pickup and do $11,000 worth of mods, you have a $22,000 F-250 pickup. But you can go to a dealer and pick up the same diesel truck with maybe high miles for $1,000's cheaper. See what I'm saying? Maybe it's just personal preferance, but I'd compromise a lil' power for a couple thousand dollars. payup

    The way to get your money's worth out of a conversion truck such as a Ford/Cummins, would be to buy an older F-250/F-350 (84-97) gasser, they're pretty cheap, and have a good solid chassis. Find one in good shape with a 300/6, 302 or 351, (aint worth doing over a 460), send it out there, they'll pull the engine, my guess is that you could sell the engine, and they'd repower it with a ISB or 6BTA Cummins, and you'd be on your way. You can find a 84-94 F-250 for less than $6000, then the repower is right about $11,000. So essentially you can have a mechanically new truck (engine/tranny) for less than new, and its built heavier. Just make sure you have a solid chassis to work with. Those engines should be good for about 300,000 miles. Match it with a ZF-6, and you've got a 1/2 million mile contender.
