    Hi there!

We're looking to improve our yard a little bit and am hoping I can gain some insight from you...

Our yard is slightly slanted, so we're thinking of creating 2 levels, but need to remove earth from the middle of the yard to make it even with the bottom (ok, that didn't even make sense to me!).

Then we plan on building a short wall to seperate the two levels.

My main question is what tools would we need (mini-excavator, trencher, ect) in order to remove what needs to go?

We're on a tight budget (I'm a full time student), so we're looking to inexpensive ways.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or ideas you can shoot my way!

A picture of your yard would be most helpful - generally , a backhoe would probably be the most useful machine , since you can excavate from the rear and use the bucket to move dirt. Doesn't sound like a tall stone wall , so mortarless stack stone would work . The key is making the excavation perfectly level . A word of caution - unless you have a knowledgeable person to advise you , this could turn into a job that you would have been better to contract out . At any rate , good luck.
