Hi, just starting out... I intend to make a trip the local nursery when I get a chance so I can learn the names of basic shrubs around here (Central Virginia) then look them up in my books so I can learn how to care for them. But in the mean time...

First one (#58 & #59) looks like a Boxwood kind of, but has straight stiff branches and straight verticals "trunks"...

Second one (#57 & #56) is about 8ft tall right now...

The third (#54) I think is Spiraea, but I'm not sure...

If anybody can help, I would appreciate it very much!

58/59 - I would say a Compacta or Helleri Holly

    56/57 - Photinia?

54 - Kinda hard to tell but maybe a very scraggly Goldmound or Goldflame Spirea, myabe Limemound

Fatweasel, just looked those names up... it's definitely a Helleri Holly. Thanks!

Fatweasel... Judging from my books, I don't think it is Photinia.

Allure, yes there are small thorns... here is a close up.

Yeah, definitely barberry, probably Golden Barberry.

Sorry, I'm having brain farts about the photinia thing. I know what it is but can't think of the name to save my life.:hammerhead:
