Anyone know these numbers or where they can be found??

    1) About how many professional lawn care businesses are there nationwide??

    2) About how many walk-behind mowers, 32” through 60”, would each manufacture sell each year nationwide??

Thanks for any help you can provide

    Good question about the question!

    How about legit only.

If the number of ligit is known, how would you estimate the total?

    Double it??
    Triple it??

How about 10 fold!!! In regards to question 2, I recall seeing these stats in a trade journal a few months ago. They weren't broken down by manufactors. Just by the industry as a whole. I'll do some research.

I might have to go "digging" (literally) through my mountain of magazines in my van. I did a search and came up with the same stuff as BRL. I distinctly remember seeing a chart with projected sales, actual sales, etc.... regarding commercial mowers.

i know this is an old post, just wondering if you got any answers...claritas research lists a business count of 98,051 in NAIC 561730-Landscape Services "(1) establishments primarily engaged in providing landscape care and maintenance services and/or installing trees, shrubs, plants, lawns, or gardens and (2) establishments primarily engaged in providing these services along with the design of landscape plans and/or the construction (i.e., installation) of walkways, retaining walls, decks, fences, ponds, and similar structures."

the majority of these are SIC 078203 "landscape contractors" (44,742) and only 2,277 are registered simply as "lawn services"

26,520 are registered as "lawn and garden services", and 16,740 are "ornamental shrub and tree services". These numbers are for 2002.

i can also drill down by state, dma, msa or county if you are interested in more local information...the bustling metropolis of Bartholomew County Indiana, for example, has 27 businesses registered in the aforementioned NAIC--12 lawn and garden services, 1 lawn service, and 7 each landscape contractors and tree services...but then, so what, right?

anyway, i'd be interested to know if you found any comparable (or conflicting) numbers, as claritas is arguably the industry standard for such research...or perhaps you lost interest and gave up on the whole thing...either way, there you have it...

About 3 weeks ago my exmark dealer and an exmark sales rep put together a presentation for city to sell some lazers and I remember one of the numbers being that last year 27% of all commercial mowers sold were exmark.
