Up until it died this winter, I ran a 1998 K1500 for 5 years. I bought 3500# helper springs for the back and would haul my 7x14 trailer with grass box, as well as load my spray tank and chems in the bed (when tank was full, this was a whopping 3500# of weight). With that background, here's my advice: YES, it CAN do it. But NO, it wasn't very safe. While it might have held the weight, it sure as crap didn't like braking. And on uphills, it was all I could do to get the truck rolling from a complete stop. If the budget demands you use that truck, then go for it. Otherwise, you might want to look into something designed to carry real weight.
