I just bought a 20 foot trialer that has split tailgates almost 6 foot high. Anyway, each one honestly weighs a TON and Im a big strong guy. Ive searched and searched but all the ones ive seen attach to the top of the metal sides but mine doesnt have any sides and I dont want them as I load my quads from the side. Well I was planning on using garage door springs and attach them to each side but Im afraid that the trailer side of the spring would be too low when the gate was down and wouldnt help any. Do you guys agree? Any ideas?

Do they make a spring that goes under the gate?

Seen people put a small leaf spring in the middle. One end is fastened under the trailer and the center is supported in like a U bolt and the other end is on the tail gate. Adjustment is with the U bolt. Works great if you have the ground clearance.

I really dont. Im looking at using a torsional spring on the hinge but theres no where to put it. Theres 4 smaller hinges underneath but Im not sure how the spring would fit there. I can find any pics online.
