I WAS speaking of this industry. But to be fair, only a few manufacturers since my dealers only deals with several, but those manufacturers they deal with this hasn't been an issue. Getting help is an overblown issue in many ways. Probably much harder for those that got rid of their help...now they're paying a price trying to find help. I'm just saying it's only an issue for some, not all to be sure. As for outside this industry, it's definitely overblown, so evidently it may well be affecting those manufacturers you're familiar with.

Tyson Foods has a long-standing issue with labor, no surprise there. Many meat packing plants have had this issue for YEARS!!! Nothing new here, so it's not relevant to the discussion.
Believe me, the labor problem is affecting all companies, with Tyson's labor problems becoming much more prevalent at the onset of COVID. Tyson is far from being the only food production company with labor problems. JBS, the largest meat production company in the world, is having huge labor problems.

One of the largest JD farm and landscape equipment dealers in the SE cannot keep qualified labor in my area. No one is willing to get further educated on things associated with the new technology being offered. People are no longer interested in putting forth the effort to learn brain skills associated with taking on these technology driven jobs. Mechanics are following the path of dinosaurs into extinction, companies cannot find people willing to put forth an effort to learn a specialized skill. They had much prefer making $20 an hour without the need of thinking.

Does anyone happen to know if the deck driveshaft has to be removed to replace the hydraulic reservoir on a 61” Turf Tiger? I’m curious to know if the bolt was missing from the factory, or if the dealer missed it during the repair. We did mow with it for 40 minutes the day I bought it, so you’d think it would have thrown the driveshaft with no bolt securing it.
Your Grounds foreman should be able to handle this one, and report back to you when these things happen.......and they DO happen.

GOOD staff that have the "skillset and experience", know what to look for almost always....Even brand new equipment should be getting a "once over check" before putting in the field for work days.

A LOT more to this grounds care business than just mowin' the grass.

I agree. He is handling this for us, I'm just here for entertainment. Never expected this post to get 200+ replies so thought we'd keep it rolling lol.

You are definitely correct about checking everything, even new equipment. We do practice that here. Problem in this scenario is A.) Who is crawling under a mower and looking for a missing bolt while it's in the dealer's service department, and B.) Have to get the mower off the trailer before jacking it up to inspect things. Appreciate your snarky response though!

Just helping out those that asked for help.

Good luck to YOU moving forward.

I appreciate your input (not being sarcastic!), but I promise I am on top of the costs. I have worked on scenario specific projections for this for over a year and honestly, the budget isn't my primary concern. We have no problem budgeting a couple hundred thousand to take care of this, but at that scale my team and I agree that we would like to have more control over the day-to-day. I would also like to provide good stable job opportunities for our local community which falls right in line with the mission statement of our organization.
where are you at in Tennessee son?

Having broke in many motors i can say that based on the consumption the OP described, no 20w50 will fix his issue. Rings dont eat a qt of oil just to get proper seat. THere is only the initial window of run time to get them seated right and thats the crucial time to put a little load on it and also vary rpms a bit.

I just fired up a brand new kawi yesterday. It was 20 degrees, i ran it around for a good half hour and the oil level did not appear to go down.

I don’t doubt it a bit. I do not believe running 20w-50 is going to change anything with this Kawasaki. Maybe I eat my words in a week or two. But I foresee a replacement engine in our future.

Picture of this machine?
I don't have the after photos yet sorry and it's out in the shed now and I had to get away to throw some ice melt. Give me a day or two and i'll follow up with the new motor in it. The new motor has the donaldson air filter so looks a hair different to the untrained eye. I might have a photo of the motor when it arrived in the meantime, pretty sure the delivery guy sent a photo because I wasn't around to sign for it, but my delivery guys knows what's up. I'll dig through some emails later, but the new motor is on it now and i'm happy to show that to you when i get back to the ranch.

Well, as you can see, he insists of proof when i make a statement. I was simply informing you that my new motor didn't burn that much oil and it was plenty cold, apparently he wants documentation. I obliged although he asked for the photo of the machine and as you can tell that wasn't quite enough.

I have been trying to give input in this thread for you. As you can tell, on page 1 j. baker immediately starts arguing about people not knowing what an acre is and saying he has a hard time believing some of us mow 20 acres a day. It's just that we should all be helping each other not attacking constantly.
