Call me dumb, but I have a question for you all. I just purchased the double blade setup for my 2003 36" gravely w/b and I was wondering if I should sharpen the new blades before I install them. Thank you:blob3:
  2. Some guys do. But its kind of pointless to put an "up-sharp" edge on a mower blade. The edge wears almost immediately to a .010" - .015" radius, so if a new blade is near that, I'll use it without sharpening. I'm probably lazy, but I only change once a week unless conditions warrant. Nothing like good sharp blades.

Don't forget to balance after you sharpen, It's not a bad idea to check the new blades for balance, as there have been several threads on this subject...

I always sharpen new blades, especially to get them balanced.
