I have been taking care of a 30 acre estate for a local millionaire since I was 16, nearly ten years, and have worked for a landscaper on and off for extra money. Experience ranges from simple mowing, trimming, grub control and some fertilization knowledge (not licensed and don't plan to offer the service unless it is subbed out) small retaining walls and concrete construction. I also have a full-time job as a Jr. Systems Engineer for a gov't contractor. My hours at my full-time job are 7am-3pm so I am in the process of starting a small landscape outfit with a buddy. We are in Maryland, hence MDScpr, and I am looking for some input from guys/gals in this area. MD, DC, PA. We have starting working for some family members and close friends and will take it from there. My main question is, how many is too many? Most yards around here range from > 1 acre to < 3 acres so with two Z Masters and a JD walk behind, we can get some serious work done. We aren't in it to make a million bucks, more for the fun of it. We both enjoy working in the business and especially like the results of our work.
Do you guys have any advice for us? Should we set a limit for the number of lawns or just let nature take its course and keep building the business, hire some help and eventually run a crew?
Appreciate it...
