Hey Grasshopper49
Pretty much the lime app has been done each fall and on one side of the property actually gets hit THREE times a year with lime!!!!
In the past it has just been part of my schedule, no soil test just like the multiple fertilizer apps however bare in mind the house is 30 something years old, we've owned it for 10 years now and I just recently took over doing the lawn for my parents the past 5 years and I've learned alot!! LOL
So before my parents bought the house I doubt it seen a single granule of any fertilizer and all my dad did was mow weeds, where weeds would grow to start with.
My first thing to get done was get ride of the water maples sucking all the nutrients from the soil. We had over 15 mature trees cut down on the lot. Then I started building the soil up, landscaped it for drainage so I could get grass to even grow which was the reason for all the lime and fertilizer. Plus a little of not knowing what I was doing back when I started too
I'm hoping I have built up the nutrients in the soil now enough I can do less apps and go with slow release and skip lime apps too. I know I know soil samples, I did that last year and everything looked great which is why I now think I can cut back.
