I was wondering the best way to get myself started in the irrigation installs. Should I work for someone else for awhile or is there classes that I can take to get me started?

Learn as much as you can. Do both.

If you know some of the basics of plumbing and water hydraulics. Read, Read, Read, books on irrigation. Then start small.
