IMO when it comes to the small stuff (trimmers, blowers, etc) buy new, with cash. When it comes to the larger equipment, look for the best used you have CASH for. Let someone else take the hit on the sticker! When buying used, pay attention to how the seller is keeping his shop and the equipment not for sale. Usually the piece for sale will be cleaned up and maintenanced, but looking around will indicate how well things are taken care of in general. I have bought all used when coming to the larger equipment, including my truck, and havn't been disappointed yet. After buying used, pay attention to the equipment! If you hear, feel, see, smell, etc....anything odd, take a look and fix before it breaks.
