I just purchased a new comet pump for my pressure washer and it works just fine with more pressure than the old one had. My question is , and I risk sounding like a dumbass here,, On one side it has the soap injector tube for down streaming , that is the one right by the pressure regulator right?
On the other side of the pump is another place to put a similar sized hose on a red plastic fitting . What is the on on the red fitting for?

Top or bottom of the pump head?? See the pumps are usally plumbed for the RHD or LHD depending on the application. The bottom of the pump had the inlet on both sides and the top portion has the high pressure on both sides of the pump. More than likelly this is just a cap. Let us know.

If the red fitting has a small spout,it's a thermal relief valve. It will spoil water to the ground when the temp inside the pump starts getting to high.no need to attach a hose if this is the case.
A pic would really help to get you the correct answer.
