My dad bought a new Recycler 21 for his yard, and later asked me to cut the grass. As soon as I started, the engine started choking out. And the grass has always been cut once a week, so there shouldn't be a problem. I own an older Recycler 21 that would have had no problem.

Toro just started using a new Recycler deck thats much flatter, and I'm wondering if that's the problem, or if it's a less powerful engine. They dont publish hp anymore, and I'm not sure why

anyone else have a new recycler that seems less powerful as the older ones?

Does it have the new 'Toro' engine on it? If so, it's a Chinese-made LCT engine that has been re-badged. FWIU Toro is moving their residential lawn mowers and snow blowers over to the new 'Toro' engines and will stop using Briggs engines. Might be a torque problem with the new engine.

@Valk: Yea I know, I still call them 21s anyway

@IS500Z: No it has a briggs engine, but I think it may have a lesser hp rating than they used to have. I was looking around and some guy thought he was buying a 7hp mower, until I corrected him that was the torque specs. They are almost tricking people like that because it has always been hp labeled on the mowers. And as for the Chinese engines. That's really low. I'm sure they are way cheaper, but they are still charging the same to buy them. For years Toro has been up there with Honda in terms of the amount of people buying high quality equipment, but they might as well just be an mtd.

I noticed on the radio that briggs has some ads on the air, so it's obvious they are trying to recoup their losses and steer buyers toward mowers with their engines on them.
