New Trailer Help Help

    I am buying a new trailer next week and am having a time deciding the length. I have a 6X12 enclosed now and am looking at a 8X16 and a 8.5X20. There is only about 200.00 difference. The 8.5X20 is a 2003 model. Both are new. I am concerned about parking in neighborhoods. Any experience with this??? Feed back please!! Thanks in advance

    I dont have an enclosed trailer but I think for $200 more I would be tempted to get the 20 footer. Do you have to go in cul-desacs?, If not I think you would be ok with the extra 4 foot over the 16 footer. Also how much equipment do you carry? A 16 footer can handle a Z and a walkbehind and a push mower and some other small stuff then it start to be a little full. I am in the same position as you except I am staying with the open trailer, I have a 12 footer now and looking to move up to a 16-20 foot trailer

    I have a ZTR, WB, 21", 2 Trimmers, 2 Blowers, 2 Edgers, all of the hand tools that Home Depot sells I think, and a varity of other misc things. I am at 3600lb's on a 3000lb axle. I can make do with the 16' but for the money difference?! I do have a couple of houses in cul-desacs that are of a concern. I guess I will have to park on the entrance or exit of them. I also plan to add another small ZTR or WB to the collection, another 21" and a parking lot blower. Is anyone using a 20' now? If you are how are you dealing with the Cul-Desacs and such??

    BTW, enclosed is the way to go.

    Go with the bigger trailer, you will never regret it! 4 feet shouldn't make that big of a difference when turning around.

    A 20 ft trailer towed with a F150? that will be hard on it.
    I would get the 16.

    I believe the towing capacity of the F-150 is abound 9500lbs. I would imagine that the trailer can't weigh more than 2000lbs, plus cargo of 4000lbs. I have still 3500lbs left. I'm guessing here its 3:16am.

    9500 lb's includes the weight of the truck.
    so somewhere around 6000 truck + 4000 equip and you're over loaded. a 20' trailer probably weighs in the neighborhood of 3500 too

    I beg to differ. If this were the case than I am over the limit by pulling my 3500lb trailer now. My father pulled a 29' camper that loaded weighed over 9000lbs with a chevy 1500 series. He was about 500-1000 over but it did fine. No transmission problems what so ever. Look at the link below and see if you see where I comming from.

    I had the Bobcat people in Savannah deliver a 873 tracked loader w/bucket and soil conditioner. He was using a F250. The operating weight is around 8000lbs plus soil conditioner plus dual axle equipment trailer. He had to be somewhere around 12-13000lbs. No problem there.

    I have found in my past experiences that Consumer Reports is pretty much wrong on most or their reports. I am not saying that they are off on this one you posted but mixing up payload and towing. If you look at the last statment they have (the one you quoted) they are stating that the 2WD has a greater towing capacity than the 4WD. This has always been the oppisite.

    Let me know what you come up with. This is not ment to spool you up. Just the knowledge I have had presented to me differs.
